The Lure of the Hoodie

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

Let’s stop the stigma of the “hoodie” in its tracks–There are many ways to wear the comfortable attire, even in a professional setting. Let’s stop the stereotype associated with this clothing and incorporate it into our daily wardrobe.

So how can you wear it?

Of course the “hoodies” we have shown here are from American Apparel and frankly, aren’t worth the extra dollar, but we’re using them as examples. You can go to your local Target, Walmart, discount store and pick up something similar. Just make sure you get at least one size down so it’s a little snug and fitted.

Over a Collared Shirt

By picking a neutral color, like this Beige Hoodie from American Apparel, and donning it on top of a collared shirt, you can maintain an ultra-sophisticated, yet laid back look. Make sure the hoodie is slim-cut and fits your frame, or you’ll zap the “sophisticated ” part from the statement and be left with”laid-back.”

At the Beach

Red at the beach is ultra-suave. Even bright orange will do the trick. There are so many colors to choose from, but nothing is worse than a dark/black hoodie at the beach–so opt for lighter colors to save yourself from the sun.

Ah, nothing says summer like a pair of Dockers (on a dock!) coupled with a pastel hoodie. Relax in style this beach season.

To A Baseball Game

Wear it to a baseball game!

Way to represent your team without spending a fortune on the entire jersey and get-up? Simply sport your favorite team’s main color by rocking a hoodie for the day–you get bonus fan points if you couple it with a collared shirt and MLB cufflinks.

The hoodie is the perfect everyday wear–wear it on the street, to the bank, light/dark colors…it doesn’t matter! Don’t let stereotypes get the best of fashion. Step forward and wear your hoodie with pride. And let’s not forget the memory of Trayvon martin–let’s turn the hoodie into a symbol of peace and love, not hate and judgment.

Style Icon: Ryan Gosling

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Ryan Gosling has won the hearts of women (and men) all over the world. His supreme acting talent outshines many others in his age range and field, and he always has a laid back, confident look that Cufflinksman loves. Here’s a recap of some of our favorite looks that Ryan has sported in recent times:

The grey in the above image in reminiscent or shall we say “premoniscent” (haha) of Fall 2012 Runway shows that we recently saw in Paris, Milan, and New York. Grey is the color of the season (next season that is) but there’s no reason why you can’t opt for a lighter version for the spring time a little early.

The news on the red carpet streets is that ryan is dating Eva Mendes, but the two are making the press and tabloids pretty skeptical about their relationship. Between their outings to cemeteries and Disney Land, they seema  little too tabloid friendly, as if it’s all a hoax. Nevertheless, the were recently spotted in Bangkok after rumors swirled about them splitting.

But what about his clothes right?? His staple: the white tee. It’s clean, fitted, and the accessories are just right. The simple white tee shirt is normally coupled with a pair of great sunglasses, eyeglasses, sweater, or nice slacks. Below you’ll find a picture of a simple blue collared shirt with shoes we love!

Again we have that basic white tee, but coupled with a light brown sweater, laid back and loose jean jacket, and…what is that? GREY SLACKS. (Told ya). The thin chain necklace adds a nice touch overall and looks like some kind of spear, bullet, or…sharks tooth?

Now if you are a loyal reader of Cufflinksman’s blog, you will know that these shoes were recently featured in a separate blog. Of course we noticed them way before we ran across this photo of Gosling in some warm, tropical place. This only ensures our sense of style is just as good if not better than Ryan’s. (Hey, we can hope, right?)

We love the fitted pants and tailored dark blue shirt for spring/summer. The shoes make it not too casual/tiki bar and appropriate for a late dinner and spin on the dance floor.

Street Style: March 18th

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

Like every other season, it’s about the little details. Think of a wine tasting…one doesn’t go in and down each and every glass, right? Savor style too. There are more options for men then ever in the realm of fashion and shoes are not to be understated. To go with the rolled pant look, these featured kicks bring a plain tee and jeans to a whole different level. GQ Magazine recently featured these in their March issue and we’d like to bring them to you in case you missed it.

Oh what to say about these! Traditional loafers with a kick (no pun intended…well maybe) transitioned into spring with no socks or at least a no-sock look. The bags in this wonderful photograph also point at the importance of the details in accessories–a woodland inspired plaid bag, a canvas messenger, and again, the rolled jeans. And what about toting your cufflinks? Our brand new Mini Travel box will do the job for under $50.

And don’t forget/be afraid to sprinkle a little white in the mix!

Wow, so this photo may not be the largest/best quality, but the brown shoes with the cropped blue pants are worth taking a look (not to mention his model “friend”). Because black and brown are not friends normally in the fashion world, or at least the high end runway world, this guy pulls off the blue to brown beautifully. Try it.

RED pops of colors! Need we say more? The two look ultra stylish at a cafe, reminiscent of 50s Chicago, mixed with avant-garde Paris, and a little Bronx action in the hat choices.
