Fashion Week returns with a deep (much-needed!) breath of fresh air for the upcoming spring 2013 season. Most of the lines feature series of texturized prepped-out spring looks, never-before-seen sweaters, a definable nod to pastel colors, and laid back 90s look with light fabrics. As we always seem to, (no we have no commercial/capital ties with this company, we promise! :), we love Michael Bastian’s spring collection. His stuff is always so fresh. It’s the dreaded-of-all words: wear-able—plus it’s crisp, original, and sexily subtle.

Let’s start with the Grey Linen Suit Look, shown on September 9, 2012:

The Vibe for Spring 2013
It’s boogie nights this season at Michael Bastian, as the designer’s American alpha males are walking with some extra swagger in their step. It’s all thanks to a louche collection of menswear that’s equal parts sporty and relaxed, but always effortlessly cool. Bastian’s signature, classic menswear pieces made fresh, still anchors the lineup, seen in versatile sport coats and clever cut-off shorts, but the designer experiments even more in this outing, like crafting a deep V-neck sweater front in the style of a kimono robe. Never one to shy away from color, this season Bastian softened his hues, opting for a dusty palette that sees neutral grays and tans paired with pistachio and lilac. It’s a collection made for the type guy who owns any room he walks into—and, more importantly, knows it.

And Parke and Ronen never seem to disappoint either:

Spring Tips: Fashion, Money, & Sex

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Things to try this season: Fashion Stripes with something not striped (i.e. a striped blue and white shirt with solid bright pants/capris, or with another type of print that stands out.) No socks and loafers. Green Wayfarers

Why not try a pair of green funky glasses for spring?

Funky sunglasses. Let’s face it, you can always take them off. That’s one of the best things about subglasses as a spring fashion accessory. It’s cool to look cool for a bit, and then switch to the “normal” you in a matter of seconds. Why not try a new color/shape/style? If aviators are your norm, try a pair of larger plastic frames, maybe in a light shade of green.   Love Experiment, but not too much. Dating tip for men: dinner/coffee/cocktail/anything on the water is good for a date.

Money It’s okay to splurge a little on new clothes and accessories at the beginning of every season. Just make sure you keep it basic. You have the rest of the season to get the more expensive, ultra-trendy stuff—so for now just keep it simple: plain tees, light fabrics, basic colors, shorts, sandals/loafers/spring shoes.   Sex Hands are important. They don’t get enough credit in the romance world. Touch is one of the five senses, so don’t forget to use it every way.

Are you a Prince or a Frog? Kiss him and find out.

If it’s not in the kiss, it won’t be anywhere else either. That’s all.   To Do Go running on a spring day. If your not a big runner, just try it. You may get to really like it, especially if you have a river close by.

Get gelato. Like tomorrow for lunch, maybe. Pay for the person behind you in line. At a drive thru? Pay for the person behind you’s meal. Make it a pay it forward kind of day. Make a smoothie for breakfast. It’s yummy, you can carry it on the go, and it will make you happy. end of story.

Style Icon: Ryan Gosling

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Ryan Gosling has won the hearts of women (and men) all over the world. His supreme acting talent outshines many others in his age range and field, and he always has a laid back, confident look that Cufflinksman loves. Here’s a recap of some of our favorite looks that Ryan has sported in recent times:

The grey in the above image in reminiscent or shall we say “premoniscent” (haha) of Fall 2012 Runway shows that we recently saw in Paris, Milan, and New York. Grey is the color of the season (next season that is) but there’s no reason why you can’t opt for a lighter version for the spring time a little early.

The news on the red carpet streets is that ryan is dating Eva Mendes, but the two are making the press and tabloids pretty skeptical about their relationship. Between their outings to cemeteries and Disney Land, they seema  little too tabloid friendly, as if it’s all a hoax. Nevertheless, the were recently spotted in Bangkok after rumors swirled about them splitting.

But what about his clothes right?? His staple: the white tee. It’s clean, fitted, and the accessories are just right. The simple white tee shirt is normally coupled with a pair of great sunglasses, eyeglasses, sweater, or nice slacks. Below you’ll find a picture of a simple blue collared shirt with shoes we love!

Again we have that basic white tee, but coupled with a light brown sweater, laid back and loose jean jacket, and…what is that? GREY SLACKS. (Told ya). The thin chain necklace adds a nice touch overall and looks like some kind of spear, bullet, or…sharks tooth?

Now if you are a loyal reader of Cufflinksman’s blog, you will know that these shoes were recently featured in a separate blog. Of course we noticed them way before we ran across this photo of Gosling in some warm, tropical place. This only ensures our sense of style is just as good if not better than Ryan’s. (Hey, we can hope, right?)

We love the fitted pants and tailored dark blue shirt for spring/summer. The shoes make it not too casual/tiki bar and appropriate for a late dinner and spin on the dance floor.
