Man Arrested For Planking Around Town

“It’s official, even the police have had enough with this planking nonsense.

A Wisconsin municipal court convicted 19-year-old Alexander Hart of disorderly conduct on Tuesday after the Manitowoc man used social media to post photographs of himself engaged in the stiff-bodied prank at several locations around town.

The 10 photographs presented as evidence to the court show Hart lying across an ATM machine, boxed merchandise at a Wal-Mart, several lawn mowers, a Walmart checkout counter, a Lowes department store shelf, and a police car.

“Mr. Hart’s laying [sic] on the squad car is disruptive to the peace and good order of the community at large,” said Kathleen McDaniel, assistant city attorney, in a written court brief, the International Business Times reports.”—Report by the Huffington Post

 

Turkish Baths Banned For Inappropriate Behavior

Tekegraph UK Reports: “The North Yorkshire town’s Turkish Baths have offered single-sex sessions, as well as mixed sessions, since they opened back in 1897. They are one of only seven Victorian baths still in existence.

Harrogate Council announced last month that it would be ending the all-male sessions in January, blaming finances. But a councillor has now admitted covering up complaints about the antics of some bathers – saying she didn’t want to ruin the town’s good name.

Cabinet member for culture, Coun Caroline Bayliss said the authority had been forced to act following repeated allegations from members of the public, stretching back several years. We have unfortunately had complaints from other male users of the Turkish Baths.

“These are problems that are very difficult for our staff to deal with over a period of a number of years.”

Italian black cat inherits 10 million euros after the death of his widowed, heiress owner.

He was originally an alley cat saved from the mean streets of Rome and now he’s a millionaire equipped with shares and a property empire which includes flats and houses in Rome and Milan and land in Calabria.

The Telegraphy UK reports: “Tommaso went from flea-bitten alley cat to “pussy galore” after being rescued by a lonely old lady, named only as Maria Assunta, who was married to a property tycoon but widowed at an early age. The couple had no children.

She became besotted with her pet but as her health began to fail, feared for his future.

So in November 2009 she wrote out a will in which she bequeathed her “entire estate” to the unknowing Tommaso.

“We’re convinced that Stefania is the right person to carry out the old lady’s wishes. She loves animals just like the woman she devoted herself to right up until the end.”

The nurse said she had no inkling that her charge was so rich. “I promised her that I would look after the cat when she was no longer around. She wanted to be sure that Tommaso would be loved and cuddled. But I never imagined that she had this sort of wealth. She was very discreet and quite, I knew very little of her private life. She only told me that she had suffered from loneliness a lot.”

US Man Published Fake Obituary of Mother to Get Bereavement Pay at Work

“Scott Bennett, a US man, published a fake obituary for his living mother in a ploy to get paid bereavement time off work, police have alleged.

Relatives called The Jeffersonian Democrat newspaper in Pennsylvania after the obituary appeared to say the woman was actually alive and well.

The woman herself then visited the paper.

Police charged 45-year-old Bennett on Tuesday with disorderly conduct.

Newspaper editor Randy Bartley said he accepted the obituary in good faith after being unable to confirm the funeral arrangements at press time.

He told The Derrick newspaper on Friday that the woman was very understanding.”

Celebrating Veterans Day

 

 

All around the United States today, celebrations will take place honoring those who have served our country in the armed forces. “Britain, France, Australia and Canada also commemorate the veterans of World Wars I and II on or near November 11th: Canada has Remembrance Day, while Britain has Remembrance Sunday (the second Sunday of November). In Europe, Britain and the Commonwealth countries it is common to observe two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. every November 11.” (from the HIstory Channel) Some recognitions will be solemn, memorializing brave soldiers lost in battle, and others will be celebratory. Either way, today’s the day to say “Thank You” to our veterans and remember those who have gone before us.

*1. Vietnam War

Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm(1990-91): America’s first encounter with Iraq’s Saddam Hussein involved 2.3 million military personnel, of whom 2.2 million are still present.

*4. World War II
World War II(1941-45): America’s most massive mobilization involved 16 million men and women, of whom 2.1 million are still alive.

“The president is hosting a veterans breakfast Friday at the White House, then laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns before speaking at a Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Soon after, Obama flies to California to take part in the first-ever Carrier Classic, basketball game between Michigan State and No. 1 North Carolina aboard the USS Carl Vinson.

The Veterans Day observances come a day after the Senate approved Obama’s call for a tax credit for those who hire jobless veterans. In a written statement, he said the vote is a fitting way to help honor those who’ve served their country.”

Ways to Keep Warm: Style Report

1. Beards

Number one way to keep warm? A little facial hair action! The trick is to keep it trimmed and relatively “neat,” which will assure you can get away with it at work. 3. Top Coats

Ah, the dapper man strikes again! Nothing like a classic top coat to go over your suit, sweater, or even tee shirt. It will transform any simple outfit into an elegant look. Want to grocery shop in your pjs? Throw on your top coat and you’ll be good to go…a closet must-have.

Last Minute, Quick Halloween Costume Ideas

 

 

Men can easily get a bad rep for not wearing a Halloween costume. it can show a lack of planning, confidence, and make one seem rather…dull. Don’t be in the “Dull Club” this year. If you haven’t planned something for tonight/tomorrow/or Monday, try any of these quick, humorous choices:
1. God’s Gift to Women
*Dress yourself in all black, take old wrapping paper and tape it around you, put a giant tag on your head that says “To: Women, From: GOD”

2. CD Burner
*String together numerous old CDs, put them around your neck, and carry a big lighter.

3. Quarter Back
*Photocopy a picture of a quarter and tape it to your back

4. One Night Stand
*Cut a hole, for your head, inside a large old box. Attach book, tissue box (or simply used tissues), and lamp/candle.

5. Paper Shredder
*Carry around a bulk of paper. If someone asks you want to are, start frantically tearing up the paper into shreds.

6. Nudist on Strike
*Wear regular clothes. Attach a large sign to your chest that says “Nudist on Strike!”

7. Cereal “Serial” Killer
* Wear clothes that are kind of rugged and torn. Carry a bloody knife and have blood on your clothes. Attach labels or actual little cereal boxes all over your outfit.

How Can I Save Money? (To Buy Cufflinks)

Yesterday we got an email from a man residing in Astoria, Queens. Thought we’d share:

Dear Cufflinksman,

Lately the state of the economy has been getting to me. As a New Yorker, although I wasn’t a part of “The Rent is Too Damn High Party,” but I was tempted to be. I won’t disclose my political affiliations, because it’s not relevant here, but like I said, things are getting shaky around here. My rent went up again last month, the price of coffee is rising, subway rides are now $2.25, cabs have an extra dollar attached to them, and when I visit my cousin in NJ I have to pay TWELVE dollars to get back in the city. Something’s gotta give right? I love buying your cufflinks and follow your blogs, but money is tight these days. Have any advice about saving money so I can stay looking fresh everyday?

Yes, we hear you. Boy do we hear you! Thank you for your support over the years and we hope things will get better for you! As New Yorkers, we are experiencing the same price changes as you, and are here to offer some savvy tips on saving a buck or two so you can re-route it to buying things you really love: like cufflinks! (And other fashionable goods that add to your “fresh” look).

TIP #1

Coffee. Instead of paying for a grande or a venti coffee at Starbucks, order a size down but say you want it in a larger cup. Normally when a person fills up a cup for you, they over pour anyway, and the “leave some room” part of the order pinches out your extra coffee. So simply ask for a bigger cup. Example Convo:

“May I have a tall coffee in a grande cup?“

TIP #2

Use Google Phone. Instead of wasting your cellphone minutes, if you have free wi-fi on your cell, get a google number and have people call you there. That way you won’t ever go over on your minutes and can possibly change your plan to lower the minutes/monthly price. Yeah.

TIP #3

Share wi-fi with your neighbors! If you’re a New Yorker, save the extra $30-50 bucks a month by sharing internet with Joe down the hall. That is, assuming you know your neighbors. If not, don’t even bother. It would just be awkward.

TIP #4

Use Groupon, Living Social, Woot, etc to purchase haircuts, pedicures, dinners, lunches, brunch…and more! If you’re thinking of going to Brunch Sunday with your significant other or a small group, look into Groupon for pre-paid lunches and drinks. You will even find new restaurants out of the deal and try something new!

TIP #5

Retailmenot.com and other “checkout code” websites. We’ve personally saved a lot on internet purchases through typing in special codes at check-out. Different codes can be acquired at random sites throughout the internet, but one of the most popular is retailmenot. If the code doesn’t work, it’s nobody’s loss, continue on with the purchase.

TIP #6

Never grocery shop while your hungry. Everything will look appealing and appetizing. You’ll end up spending way too much on that gourmet cheese only made in Switzerland or those organic berries that your mouth is watering for. Suddenly, the curry mix you pass every other week will call out your name and…you get the point.

TIP #7

Drink more water. And don’t be afraid of tap water. Studies have shown that plastic bottles harbor bacteria and ALSO most of these “natural” spring water sources contain more bacteria than your average city water. NYC is especially good with their water sanitation and produces a surprisingly good potable water. So grab your metal water bottle, turn on the tap, and drink your money!
