NYE Fashion Night Out: Black and White

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Make it a red carpet experience. Tis the season to look positively fly this New Years Eve. Here are some of the hottest trends, by the best designers around town, some of which happen to be on sale. (Yeah for post-christmas sales!). Let’s start with your basic white collared shirt: it’s basic, well made, and yes you can wear it again after the 31st until it fades to yellow. Then of course, gentlemen, it’s time to get another. A must-have closet staple (assuming you didn’t get any under the Christmas tree).

Now to cover the white shirt you have many options. The most reliable and unassuming is the black Two Button sports Jacket with a blinging pair of designer cufflinks. You can’t be wearing Alexander McQueen without designer cufflinks, right?

Add texture on your sleeve with these Aymara Blue Butterfly Cufflinks made from real butterfly wings (yes, real). And you can feel good wearing them too: 10% of proceeds are donated to the Butterfly Farm in Peru, where these elegant little creatures live out full, healthy lives in the rain forest. Made with 950 Sterling Silver:

Step up your fashion forward attitude by this new tweed jacket by the one and only YSL:

Black and white, black and white…Pair these staple gradations with Aymara Zebra Star Butterfly Cufflinks, again, made with pure Peruvian silver and Butterfly wings.

SLACKS! What will you wear on your bottom? Most men today can wear the slim fit pants that are all the rage. It is not, I repeat, not okay to be wearing relaxed fit or loose fitting pants on NYE or any other day for that matter. Tighten it up.

Bring your information with you–maps, directions, music, you name it, it can fit on these real working USB Cufflinks from Ravi Ratan:

This sleek, ultra plush beautiful distressed cardigan is a more laid back way to cover your basic collared shirt. Check this one out by John Varvatos:

Top it all off with a, yes you got it, a top hat. This one won’t break your bank and is moderately priced from Barneys:

All in all, you can’t go wrong with making black and white accessories your “thing” for the New Years. It assures you will look amazingly slimmer and will even make your lady look good. Happy New Year friends.

Winter comes and the colors get duller. Why not bring a fresh breath of spring with you during the dull winter days? Yellow is not just for happening April evenings, lost in meadows of sunny mirth! Added (in splashes) to your dark and foreboding winter wear will make everything pop. Think brown and yellow, blue and yellow, grey and yellow, black and yellow…etc. You get the point.

Remember, think SPLASHES. Not full ensembles.

During the dreary days, spice up your black/blue/grey formal wear with this Italian Yellow Sun Silk Neck Tie. You can even dress down this tie by wearing it with a casual shirt and blue pants/jeans, like this Street Style feature on GQ (see below). The juxtaposition between the yellow/mustard pants with a blue top is hot right now. Get funky if you feel it.

Another way to rock yellow in your ensemble is to use cufflinks. This Aymara Yellow Lion’s Paw Butterfly Cufflink pair will look great with a brown or black suit. It will add just the appropriate amount of color to not blind spectators and throw off the visual scale of your colleagues.

These new suits from JCrew are the perfect back drop for this kind of fashion. GQ Editor’s Choice article explains: “The two suits shown with the washed pastel shirts.”—Ted Stafford, GQ European market editor

“The slim gray cotton suit with a washed pale yellow shirt and a striped knit tie—and a Jim Nelson favorite as well!”—Brian Coats, GQ senior fashion and market editor

“There was a pale gray suit with an electric, almost lemon-colored oxford shirt that I will almost certainly own.”—Sean Fennessey, GQ multimedia content editor

And don’t forget the old fashioned pocket square. They never go out of style and have a function: wipe your chin, nose, hands, lady’s tears. Choose a color that will pop against a solid suit color, like this Creamsicle Paisley Silk Pocket Square:

And for the bolder types out there, don’t be afraid to try a yellow blazer like this one recently featured on the runway from the Parke & Ronen Collection Spring 2012 collection:

Lastly, these Aymara Yellow Butterfly Cufflinks are the perfect medium between extremes: light colored, simple, detailed, and organic! Plus any of the Aymara Butterfly Cufflinks support a Peruvian Butterfly farm, committed to protecting and raising exotic butterflies. Look good and give back to nature. We’ll donate 10% to the farm with your purchase:

Eco-friendly cufflinks for the eco-friendly guy

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

We are living in a tumultuous time when caring for the earth isn’t just a fun thing to do anymore. It has become a responsible thing to do, because we are at risk of ruining our beautiful planet. Thanks to climate change, pollution, famine and an increase in natural disasters, we are being forced to change our old destructive habits so that we can live in harmony with the earth instead. There are many ways to change your habits, such as recycling, walking or riding a bicycle more, and driving eco-friendly cars. You can even make a positive impact by wearing eco-friendly cufflinks! AYMARA is an eco-friendly cufflink designer that only uses materials found in nature to make their designs.

All AYMARA Cufflinks are made by hand using precious elements from the natural world. With a strong commitment to the environment and eco-friendly practices, AYMARA uses sterling silver from a Peruvian market and butterfly wings from butterflies that pass on naturally after living in a protected Amazonian garden. The butterfly wings are used to create inspiring cufflinks, such as these AYMARA Square Blue Dawn Cufflinks. In addition to helping preserve the environment, whenever you purchase a pair of AYMARA cufflinks a percentage of the sale goes to support the butterfly garden and its animal orphanage. Cufflinksman.com is also doing its parting, donating a sizable percentage of ALL SALES to the butterfly garden and the animal orphanage. Will you do your part today?
